Let’s pretend we’re in a living room together. It’s not that late, but not that early. Maybe getting dark but we aren’t depressed. We have just walked in fall weather in NYC or we just met up in LA or wherever we are. The living room is nice. We have tea or drinks and we feel inspired by one another. There’s two of us…or five of us…and we are vibing on each others creativity and minds and we are nice supportive people so we feel safe. We admire each other. We start to play each other our favorite songs and we spend the next few hours sharing music.
I made you a mixed tape. The theme is romance and wanting. One song is just about being in love again and how that makes the world incredible but most are about longing. I love love songs, not just about people, but about places and the romance of life. We used to make mixed tapes from records onto a cassette. Then it turned from into burning cds from itunes. I remember the record to tape process better for some reason. The last “mixed tape” I got was from my friend
. I used it to write too. There are a few mixed tapes that Ive had that went with me everywhere in the car, from long road trips to short trips to the market. Sofia Coppola captured that experience of turning each other onto songs so well in The Virgin Suicides. To all the people who have shared their favorite songs to me, this is especially for you.
Here it is!
I made a video below for paid subscribers, where I talk through each song and what they mean to me..
