PICK OF THE WEEK: Alex G - "Headlights"
An album for Gen X-ers and their Gen Z kids to vibe out on together
Living with a 16 year old, we are always on the lookout for those pieces of art and media that can speak to our intergenerational hipster hearts. Lana Del Rey can still do it. Kanye had a good stretch. Big Thief always works. But these artists are few and far between. Music that hits Gen X and Gen Z in a way that feels relevant and real is a big demand, and when we put on the new Alex G album this week on the morning drive to school, and all sat quietly enveloped in vibe, it was clear that “Headlights” sits in this perfect sweet spot.
For those that aren’t familiar, Alexander Giannascoli, better known as Alex G, is a 34 year old American musician, producer, and singer-songwriter, who is now 10 studio albums deep into his catalogue, and has just released “Headlights”, his major label debut.
‘Headlights” blends his brilliant and experimental lo-fi home approach with a slightly bigger and lusher vision, and is being called a career high.
