PICK OF THE WEEK: Drawn By Romy
Introducing you to one of our fav underground illustrators!
Some of you may recognise the name Romy Hoffman as the brains and heart behind lo-fi rap project Macromantics (Kill Rock Stars), LA post-punk outfit Agender, or even from her brief stint in Noise Addict as a teenager. Romy has been living and breathing alternative and indie culture since the early 90s. If you don’t believe us, here’s Sonic Youth showing her some love!
Anyway, enough nostalgia and indie-cred verification…today we are here to share Romy’s visual art skills with y’all.
Her work is hand-drawn black felt pen illustrations, in a style that draws on a variety of punk, minimal, queer, pop art influences.
When we first set up home in Sydney, Romy’s drawing were amongst the first things to grace our walls…
…we love the innocence and edge that combine in Romy’s artistic vision. Like K Records, or Daniel Johnston’s music, there is a childlike openness and fandom that reminds us of why we love music, art and film.
Here are a bunch of her cool drawings. To see more of Romy’s work, and to DM for purchase details visit
