PICK OF THE WEEK: Mallrat "Horses"

New single from one of our fav Aussie artists

This week brought the excitement of a new delicate and vulnerable new Mallrat single named “Horses”, along with a gorgeous and surreal video directed by Tom Carroll.

Mallrat is an anomaly in the local music scene, equal parts a product of nature and the internet, speaking a fluent and forward-thinking pop culture language that sets her apart from other Australian artists. A couple of years back she caught the wider world’s attention with the Azealia Banks-featuring “Surprise Me”, an absolutely banging pop tune, that contained one of Banks’ all-time greatest lyrics “My pussy tighter than Nicole Kidman’s face”.

“Horses” reveals a new side to Mallrat: introspective, plaintive and mournful, while still infused with her trademark magic.

“I made this song with my friend Alice Ivy. A lot of the lyrics on this song are about going home and how alone that makes me feel. The first verse is describing catching the train home from school with my little sister Olivia. She has passed away since I wrote this song and so it really makes me miss her.”
