PICK OF THE WEEK: Matty Healy and Caveh Zahedi Getting Stoned Together
An incredible pop-cultural artefact.
Caveh Zahedi and Matty Healy are both fascinating, provocative and sometimes infuriating artists and cultural figures.
Zahedi is an American first person confessional documentary filmmaker with an incredible body of work including “I Am A Sex Addict”, “The Sheik and I” and iconic meta-web series “The Show About the Show”. Caveh is one of our favorite filmmakers and is always looking to push the boundaries of intimacy, honesty and cinema. His original concept for this particular series with “Tripping with Caveh” where he would do psychedelics with a different guest each episode - you can find the pilot episode with Will Oldham on Youtube if you want to take a deeper dive.
Apparently, Caveh found it difficult to get enough people interested in doing psychedelics with him on film, so he pivoted to “Getting Stoned with Caveh” where he had guests like Alex Karpovsky, Alex Ross Perry and Kevin Corrigan all bare their souls over a bong.
This concept reached its ultimate creative expression last year, when The 1975 frontman Matty Healy joined Caveh to get high and discuss art, spirituality, drugs, The Mountain Goats and how far an artist should be willing to go for their art.
Whatever your thoughts are about Caveh or Healy, this episode possesses a tenderness, vulnerability and chaos that is makes it a truly unique cultural artefact.
Very curious to hear your thoughts! You can watch the vid right here…
Enjoy, Beautiful Babies!
