Best known as the artist behind the Beatles “Revolver” album cover, and also as the brilliant bass player heard on albums by John Lennon, George Harrison, Lou Reed and Harry Nilsson amongst others, Klaus Voormann’s art surrounded me growing up. Whenever I was in he and my Godmothers house in Mt Washington, I would stand in front of his paintings and drawings and be pulled in, travelling deep into the stories I imagined behind them.
Klaus’s illustrative work is evocative, dreamy and dynamic. He designed more than 100 record, book, magazine covers and concert posters, for artists such as The Beatles, Bee Gees, Turbonegro, Wet Wet Wet, Terry Southern and Woody Allen.
I was always naturally compelled towards drawing and painting, but being around Klaus and his monk-like relationship to making art naturally encouraged me. My godfather Klaus Voormann was one of those organic influences that sky rockets you into his private universe and blows open your mind.
